Beginner to Specialist Beginner to Specialist
The straight forward guide to enhancing clinical practice and excellence in management, for doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals. This book is an innovative approach that guides the practitioner through a range of practice areas and modern management processes that are being introduced in the current healthcare system.
The boundaries between nurses, doctors and other healthcare staff are becoming increasingly blurred, particularly as nurses are expanding their roles in collaborations, such as the hospital at night project.

Included in the book are:
" Management of the cardiac arrest including the approved new 2005 guidelines from the Resuscitation Council (UK)
" Assessment of the acutely sick patient
" Blood test results
" ECG interpretation
" The sampling and interpretation of blood gases
" Advanced clinical skills such as chest auscultation, chest x-ray analysis and abdominal assessment
" Managing the Hospital at Night team
" Nurse prescribing
" Manual handling
" Health and safety
" Infection control

The book is written in a format that presents information in a simple, easily read form that can be used by all disciplines and carried to the bedside for use as a crib sheet in patient assessment or in the challenging new management circumstances such as the hospital at night team management.

It is an essential resource for the modern nurse, nurse practitioner, student, doctor or healthcare assistant who needs access to important key information that can be used quickly and easily particularly in the extreme of the emergency situation.

Jo's Comments

I like this book which is a pocket sized guide to Nursing. It is a small but chunky book, written by Rob Schwartz who is a Nurse Practitioner and trainer. Whilst maybe too large for some people's pockets it will certainly fit easily into your bag to carry around or would be useful to keep at the Nurses station. It reads like a Manual for Nurses covering essentials from resus and bloods to management issues like dealing with complaints and moving and handling. My A/E colleagues find it very useful as would all Nurses in the acute setting.
